A huge Congratulations to Malali for securing her role at WTW. Here, she gives us some great tips for future candidates as well as how she found the whole process.
What was the toughest part of the application process? And your favourite part?
Strangely enough I always find the psychometric tests the toughest part as they tend to go either really well or really badly for me! It seems the most impersonal part of the process and tends to be marked harshly. I really enjoy the interview part of the process as you get a chance to meet your future work colleagues and really showcase your talents in person, which you can't really do at any other stage of the process.
Were you surprised by anything in the process?
Actuarial roles tend to have quite a lengthy application process. The application process at WTW was no different!
What three top tips would you give your fellow Bright Network members?
Getting some internship experience is so important. You may be dead set on being an actuary but there are so many different type of actuarial roles in many different locations! For example, working in Central London is miles different from working in outer London locations. You can be an Insurance, Pensions or Life Actuary. Getting some experience in one area can really ascertain whether that is the role for you. It's best to know as early as possible where you will fit in.
What was the toughest question you faced at interview?
Towards the end of the interview, I was asked some very abstract questions to do with made up scenarios that really got me thinking! You can't really prepare for these but a positive attitude goes a long way.
