After attending Bright Network’s Women in Leadership event, Iaya has gone on to secure an Internship with EY! We had a chat with Iaya to hear all about it.
Why did you choose this firm and this role?
I’m currently studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Warwick and I’ve done an engineering internship, but I really didn’t enjoy it. Because of this, I decided to go to Bright Network’s Women in Leadership event – where I met EY. EY is a leader in their field and, after meeting them at the event, I decided I wanted to pursue a career in business rather than engineering.
What was the toughest part of the application process and what was your favourite part?
The phone interview was the toughest part of the process. EY do a strength based phone interview, rather than competency, which I felt made it more difficult to prepare for than other firms. My favourite part of the application process was the assessment centre. I got to meet a range of people and had the opportunity to go to EY’s office.
Were you surprised by anything in the application process?
I was surprised at how quickly EY got back to me with an answer – I was so glad that I found out that I’d secured the internship before my 3rd year at university had even started.
What top tip would you give your fellow Bright Network members?
Apply early - that's the best thing - because it takes the pressure off for the rest of the year.
What's your lucky charm or pre-interview ritual?
Go into the interview as relaxed as possible and have a chat with everyone you meet.
